Imo State of
Nigeria was created on February 3, 1976
when the former East Central State was split into
two states – Imo State and AnambraState. Since then Abia
State has been cared out of Imo
State.
Imo State is strategically located in the heart
of the nine Eastern States of Nigeria.

program covers the Communities in Local Government
Areas of Imo State
Mobilization and awareness is done by village
community with the help of village Clan heads,
church Leaders and local council members.
The screening camps are organized at the health
centers and schools. The screening team of Owerri
eye hospital identifies the operable cataract
patients who are then requested to come to the
base hospital.
On every Monday and Thursday, there are 250 to
300 persons which comprises of the camp patients
and walk-in villagers with eye problems reported
to TCF Eye Centre. They belong to different age
groups and strata of the society. Some of these
patients also belong to the neighboring States.
The often reported eye problems are loss of vision
due to the cataract, Glaucoma, Pterygium, Refractive
error and other minor eye problems.
